The International Society of Automation (ISA) has unveiled MimoSM, a specialized large language model designed to enhance access to industrial automation knowledge.
Trained on ISA's extensive library of standards, technical reports and training materials, Mimo aims to provide instant, AI-powered answers to complex questions about automation and operational technology (OT) cybersecurity.
"ISA has a vast wealth of technical information, including the world's leading standards for industrial automation and OT cybersecurity,” said Claire Fallon, ISA’s CEO and executive director. “Mimo provides a novel way for users to engage with that content and deepen their understanding."
The Mimo model is designed as a domain-specific solution for engineers and technicians, providing them with a chatbot tool capable of answering related to their applications.
Users can ask the Mimo-powered chatbot for suitable ISA-compliant tools for automating specific services. Mimo can also break down technical articles and books, as well as guide users to relevant webinars or training courses to help them learn new skills. ISA members have unlimited access to Mimo. Non-members can use the service but are limited in the number of questions they can ask and limited response detail.
Mimo’s underlying model will be continuously retrained on ISA content, ensuring it's up to date on the latest materials. Users are also encouraged to provide feedback on the model to improve its future performance.
“Last year, ISA launched Pub Hub, the society's one-stop content portal for members,” said Prabhu Soundarrajan, ISA’s president. “Mimo uses Pub Hub as a launch point for its learning and refers back to documents hosted there for exclusive use by ISA members. This reliance on ISA technical content makes Mimo a richer and more relevant resource than ChatGPT or similar services.”
The Mimo model was built by ISA in partnership with Betty Bot, a Washington D.C. company that designs AI-powered knowledge assistants for member associations.
